MEETING LOCATION: The course itself will be held in the classrooms of the Marathon Sail and Power Squadron building (Brady Building). Located at 12 Loggerhead Lane, it's just behind the Panda House restaurant on US1, which itself is across the street from the Publix Grocery. Turn onto 52nd street Gulfside, then right onto Loggerhead Ln and the building is there on your right (a white building on stilts). This is a one hour drive to Key West if you care to go during your off times.
Course Description:
ANNUAL UPDATE: Once a year we offer an "Update"
course on Laser Safety and Problems. This is primarily directed
toward Alumni of any of our Laser or Medical training courses or
home-study programs, but anyone is welcome to register and attend.
Special pricing applies to our own Alumni. Medical Laser Safety
Officers should stay current on issues with Medical/Aesthetic Laser
Safety and Use, and Repair Technicians will benefit from safety
updates and sharing common technical problems and their solutions -
this saves money for the facilities by helping head off, or more
easily correct problems. For those that FIRST need the Safety Officer
or Other training we'll offer special deals on our Computer
Based Training that you can complete before you arrive at this course (see
below).
LASER SAFETY CURRENCY: The 2011 ANSI Laser Safety Standards require recurrent safety training for staff at least once every five years. Attending this Safety Update will meet this requirement for any staff, and all LSO's will need to be brought up to speed on the new 2011 ANSI Standards.
A.N.S.I. CHANGES:
LASER SAFETY OFFICERS & CERTIFICATION: Finally we'll be doing a "Laser Certification Review" for Medical Laser Safety Officers and offering the Certification exam on the 3rd morning. This is the Board of Laser Safety (BLS) exam, who participate in the NCLC (National Council on Laser Certification). You must first qualify to take the exam by having attended a previous Laser Safety Course. If you have not attended such formal training (and you must have the Certificate to Evidence that), then you can still participate by registering for and taking our Medical Laser Safety Officer Online/Home-Study course PRIOR TO ATTENDING THIS MEETING. We'll even include that program at no additional charge to you if you're registering for the course at the regular $895 fee. There will be an incremental testing fee of $75 per person for everyone qualifying for and taking the exam. Those qualifying for any of the other NCLC Laser Certification Exams (Aesthetic, Laser Hair Removal, Repair) may also take those specific Certification exams at their option
LASER CERTIFICATION EXAMS & RENEWALS: For those needing initial testing, or renewal of any of the Laser Certifications, including the Medical Laser Safety Officer (MLSO) with the BLS, you may take the exam here at the end of the third day. All applicants must first qualify (see Certification Handbook at www.LaserCertification.org ) for the exam requested. For those wishing to renew their MLSO Certification, this retest may be taken in lieu of meeting the 3 year continuing education requirements. All "Re-examinations" for any of the Laser Certifications are available for our cost of $75. We will be conducting specific Laser Certification Reviews for Aesthetic, Hair Removal and Laser Safety Officer the morning of the third day prior to exams.

Alternative Hotels: - (click
on the links to go to the hotel sites)
Banana
Bay Resort and Marina is our host hotel, listed at the
top of this page. It is the most convenient for the meeting and is a
VERY NICE mid priced hotel (for the Keys).
(This is the only hotel we've made room arrangments
for. Room block is limited so book your room right away to get this
location and rate - Say you're with the LASER meeting)
Hawks Cay Resort
and Marina - High End resort about 10 miles from the meeting.
Standard rooms start about $283
Tranquility Bay Beach Resort - High End resort about 3 miles
from the meeting. Rooms start at about $309
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Marathon - Starting prices about
$114, about 4 miles from the meeting at outskirts of Marathon.
Crystal
Bay Resort - Small but nice motel close to Banana Bay.
Affordable at starting prices of around $80. This is a tropically cozy mom &
pop place, and nice.
There are numerous other hotels/motels in the
area if you want to check on your own.
Travel: -
Marathon is a small town only 5 miles in length in the middle of the
Florida Keys at Mile Marker 50. You can fly into one of several
airports, get a rental car and then drive to Marathon. Key West
(EYW) is the closest - about an hour from Marathon straight up US 1.
Airfares may be slightly higher fees than Miami. Miami (MIA) is 2
hrs 30 mins away and you just get on the Florida turnpike south,
which turns into US 1 - the only road through the Keys. Fort
Lauderdale (FLL) is another affordable option for flights and its
about 2 hrs 45 minutes from Marathon. The drive through the Keys in
the daytime is GREAT - scenic on the Overseas Highway (US 1). You
can check on ORBITZ
and other sites for flights.
