Professional Medical Education Association, Inc. The course covers ALL of the fundamental laser concepts that are required learning for those using lasers in ANY health care environment. It is directed toward surgical nurses, laser safety officers, physicians, and medical/surgical technicians. Please note that this is an all lecture program. The attendee will learn about the various types of medical lasers which are available, and how they each differ in effects and application by specialty. Laser attachments, accessories and related instrumentation will also be discussed. The Safety presentations we use in this program are the same Safety material we have been asked to develop and present on behalf of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) for use in training at their annual Scientific meeting. We present the Laser Safety portions of that training at the ASLMS. Course participants will obtain clinical, technical and administrative information essential to the development of a comprehensive, compliant, and effective laser service within their facility. It is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of laser science, technology and safety to perioperative professionals and hospital management personnel. Clinical lasers of all wavelengths, applied to a variety of specialties, will be highlighted. The most recent ANSI 136.3 standards for Lasers in Health Care are reviewed in this program. This program is directed toward Medical Laser Safety Officers (MLSO's) and Laser Operators who may be nurses, technicians, program managers or biomedical engineers. The program covers all of the Basic Science areas of Laser Biophysics, Tissue Interactions and Safety for medical personnel. The course is also designed to train Laser Safety Officers (LSO’s) who have been given the responsibility to establish and administer a Laser Safety program within an institution. Laser Operators (Assistants), working under the authority of the LSO, gain the required foundation in laser biophysics & safety to be credentialed as a laser operator by their facility (hands-on work additionally required). Physicians meet the requirements for Laser Biophysics, Safety and Tissue Interaction training required as part of hospital credentialing. The format is geared to accommodate those with little or no previous laser experience, while at the same time including practical information and updates for those more experienced with laser applications. ANSI updates. OSHA, JCAHO compliant. The NCLE Laser Certification Exams (MLSO - Surgical - or others upon request) will be given the afternoon of the last day of the course and is included as part of the 2 Day course fee.. Details of the Certification process are discussed during the course. You may download the Candidate Handbook for details and forms at http://www.LaserCertification.org .The biophysics and energy concepts are taught on a practical conceptual level -- enhancing the practical understanding of the instruments and safety, while avoiding unnecessarily complex explanations. Safety practices are discussed in detail, along with normal variances that might be caused by hospital to hospital practice differences. MATERIALS INCLUDED:- The LASER COURSE MANUAL contains the printed notes and slides from the PowerPoint presentations so that attendees can follow on a slide by slide basis and add their own notes. It also includes the 184 page "Lasers in Medicine & Surgery" manual - The attendee receives another CD with two separate Laser Safety PowerPoint Shows on them to use in your own inservice training. One presentation is about 10 minutes in length and the other about 30 minutes to accommodate different levels of learners. If you're the MLSO (Medical Laser Safety Officer) you'll use this for your own internal safety training. -- Where else can you get ALL of this information and material at such a value for the course?
