A new novel way to do near/far burn alignments:
Stick a candle in an apple and light with the laser  it to test your alignment!

We try to use real-life examples for our laser class. Here the billiard table shows real applications of the Snell's Law as it applies to optics - that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection from a plane surface.
Playing pool actually helps one do optical alignments easier!
